Connecting your laptop to a public port - Mount Scopus

Technical info

In order to provide public network access to users, who wish to connect with their own laptops, the university has installed communication ports in public areas and classes; similar access points have been installed in some of the dorms. Authentication is required, and the connection account is obtained by registration in our site: http://rap.huji.ac.il.

For your information: The connection is established using DHCP to assign a temporary address to your PC and after installing a dialer and authenticating (over VPN) you get a valid IP address with which you can work.


 

Where is the service available?

Mount Scopus- "Gush 1" in  social sciences building, in the Rothberg school's  library, in rooms 201 and 401 in Mt. Scopus Library, in Law School library and Archeology library.
More public ports will be available soon.

 

 


Account registration - http://rap.huji.ac.il

Account registration for connection services is compulsory and you will not be able to to connect without it. At the end of the registration you will be provided with a username and password for connection services. You will need to register through our site: http://rap.huji.ac.il

NOTE: CS users don't need to register.

The registration site:
  • The site can be accessed from HUJI's network, wireless and from any other network.

  • When logging-in to our system, type your ID number and 5 digit personal code EXACTLY as they appear in your student's payment book or your pay slip.
    You will also need to type the security code exactly as it appears in the image.

  • You will need a valid active E-Mail address.

  • Registration form: You will be asked to fill in your telephone number as well as a verification answer. Both will be needed in case you forget your password, therefore remember your answers.

 


Change password

  • Your password should be changed every 3 months. You will receive an alert by email to remind you to change your password in time.

  • You will be able to change your password through our site: http://rap.huji.ac.il.

  • The new password you set should differ from the history of your 5 last passwords.

  • CS users do not change their passwords through this system and should refer to their local support.

 


Forgot password

There are two ways to reset your password in case you've forgotten it:

  • Self reset - You can reset your password by yourself through any computer which is connected to HUJI. Go to our site: http://rap.huji.ac.il, click the button: Forgot password, and then login. In order to set a new password you will need to type your telephone number and the verification answer EXACTLY as you typed them upon your registration in the site.

  • Helpdesk reset - Call the helpdesk (02-6585555, 02-5883450) to reset your password. After stating your answers correctly (telephone number and verification answer), you will be able to connect temporarily and set a new password in our site: http://rap.huji.ac.il.

  • CS users do not reset their passwords through this system and should refer to their local support.

  • Problems should be referred to Helpdesk at 02-5883450. Frontal support will be given on Sunday's and Tuesday's at The Support Center, room #4203 Humanities building, between 17:00-18:00

At this stage, the service is available to the Bronfman (Idelson) buildings 18-20 and Reznik buildings 5 and 6 [ONLY] at the Bronfman and Reznik dormitories at Mount Scopus . The service at Mount Scopus is available through the academic semesters only.

Support

You should fill an application form at the following link: https://mslinux6.mscc.huji.ac.il/dorm/index.php
After filling the application, you will be contacted in order to set a date for installation.

Note: the service is not available during summer vocatio n. No requests will be taken care of but from this website.


Conditions for support

You will not receive any support unless the following conditions are followed:

  1. That your computer is properly functioning.
  2. a. That you have a network card installed (an Intel network card is recommended)
    b. Please check that you have the correct diskette with the network card, drivers.
  3. You should verify that the network card is properly installed - the computation authority is not responsible for any technical problems regarding your software or hardware. In case you have such a problem your hardware provider should be contacted.
  4. Make sure you have a valid Internet account. You can open an account at http://rap.huji.ac.il.
  5. Make sure you have a CD of your operating system be ready to use when you are visited by our technical support.
