News Bulletin #95
7-March-1997
Today's topics:
- Hebrew university proxy upgraded.
o Hebrew university proxy: The WWW proxy of the Hebrew university has
changed its status from "experimental" to "production". While doing
so, we've upgraded the machine to a faster one, added more memory
and more disk space for caching. This means that you are now
welcome to use it as your proxy server (if you haven't done so yet).
In order to do so, open the "options" menu, and then at the "HTTP
PROXY" enter "wwwproxy.huji.ac.il", and at the port enter 8080 (for
MSexplorer version 2.0 enter "wwwproxy.huji.ac.il:8080").
Why using our proxy when Machba has its own proxies? Well, it is
true that currently our proxy is being fed from Machba ones;
however, it knows to recover from slow response and communication
errors with them much better than the end user program (Netscape,
etc.) knows.
Many thanks to Lena Zomer (helen@cc) from the computation center who
helped making this project possible.
