Today's topics:
- Deleting old files.
- Fast modems available.
- Guides in Postscript format available for printing or faxing.

- SYS$FAST queue.
o Deleting old files: As of Sunday 15-August-1993 we will delete all
users' files that were not touched for half a year or more. This is
in order to free disk space for users who really needs it. Note
that our backups are kept for less than a year.
o Fast modems: The fast modems (V.32bis) are available for use.
These modems should be used only by users having a modem which is
V.32bis compatible. A description of the various modems terms and
the new access system is available according to the next paragraph.
o PostScript guides: In addition to the text guides available in
GUIDES$ directory we placed a few guides in PostScript format at
PUBLIC$:[GUIDES]. These guides can be printed on a PostScript
compatible printer only. The guides can be printed directly from
that directory or be retreived via Anonymous FTP from system
VMS.HUJI.AC.IL at directory GUIDES. Those who do not have
PostScript printer can receive these guides via Fax by sending your
fax number to INFO@VMS.HUJI.AC.IL.
The Postscript guides currently available are:
MODEMS.PS - Describes the various modems protocols and recommended
modems.
DIALIN.PS - Describes the various modems systems we have and the
passowrd access system.
HEBREW.PS - Describes the various acpects of Hebrew and its usage on
computer systems.
INTERNET.PS - The basics of working over Internet - what is Internet
and how to access it.
EMAIL.PS - A brief description of the various mail systems and how
to locate addresses.
EVE.PS - A short guide to the EVE editor.
NEWS.PS - A short description of the ANUNEWS news system.
TAPES.PS - How to work with tapes on VAX/VMS systems.
WINDOWS.PS - How to use Xwindows.
BATCH.PS - A short guide describing how to run restartable batch
jobs on VAX/VMS
o Guides available for minimal fee: The VMS, Unix and WWW guides are
available for minimal fee from the secretaries of the computation
center at Givat Ram (Osnat at 65-84218) and Mt. Scopus (Rachel at
58-83072). The reception hours are 9:00-13:00.
o Software and hardware available at reduced price: The computation
center buys a few software packages and hardware expansions in large
quantities in order to get reduced prices. The items can then be
purchased from the computation center at the same price. The main
items available are:
Memory upgrades for PCs, Macs and Suns in 1, 2 and 4mb boards.
Delta-Graph.
Nisus
Michal, No'ach, Dagesh
DOS-5 and Dos-6; windows-3.1
Excel
Mathematica and Maple.
HCL/Exceed (Xwindows for PC).

o Software products list: A constantly updated list of the various
software packages available on the VAX is accessible at
GUIDES$:SOFTWARE.TXT.
o SYS$FAST queue - A queue for short jobs (up to 10 minutes of CPU)
was created and is called SYS$FAST.
