News Bulletin #71
29-April-1996
Today's topics:
- New modems.
o New modems: We are now in the process of replacing our modems with
newer and better ones. As a result you might experience some
problems, caused by "childhood illness" of the new system.
Currently we have almost 80 modems running at 14.400. The first
stage (done at these days) is to replace them with 28,800 modems.
The second stage is to add 80 more modems to have a total of 160
modems, which we hope will make connecting at the evennings easier.
This second stage will take about 2 months. We might connect back
the old modems as an interim solution, so we'll have 160 modems,
some of them 28,8 and some 14.4;
There is a new service of Bezeq - 135 - which is supposed to give
free Internet access. This is an experimental service which was not
announced yet; it can be used by those who want only access to
abroad, like WEB surfing. For those who need access to the
university it won't help much, as the connection is done thru USA
and will be probably slow.
NOTE: We do not have any control over Bezeq services, nor it is
official service.

Correction to News Bulletin #71
29-April-1996
One point which might have no been clear at the previous bulletin about 135
services: This service costs (currently) one charging unit every 5 minutes; it
is constant from the entire country and all over the day; i.e., it charges
every 5 minutes even after 10pm.
